About the Event


Women refined and popularized the American silent film industry. They worked behind and in front of the camera, pioneering and dominating many professions, producing films, and advancing cinema’s artistry. The labor, leadership, and creativity of these female visionaries turned the Hollywood film industry into one of the most successful forms of entertainment in the world.


Mary Mallory will reveal the trailblazing legacies of such women as Mary Pickford, Gloria Swanson, Clare West, Red Wing, and others who made their mark on silent films at Paramount Studios as featured in her new book, First Women of Hollywood: Female Pioneers in the Early Motion Picture Business.


A book signing will follow the presentation.


Tickets cost $10 for members, $14 for nonmembers. There is limited seating, so advance tickets are recommended.
